What is Sunday School?

It is a time for learning about God and a wonderful opportunity to develop life-long friendships in our church and community. It is also an opportunity to participate in outreach and mission projects as each class has adopted different projects to reach out, help and support.

Our children’s classes have age-appropriate curriculum designed to teach our children the beloved stories of the Bible while encouraging interaction and building friendships.

The youth classes are a social way to keep your young person involved through a sometimes awkward time of life.

Maybe you are an adult and haven’t participated in a Sunday School Class since you were a child. If so, visit a few classes and see which one is the right fit. We have many different classes because in the Methodist church we realize that people relate to God in different ways and we celebrate that.
If you have questions about any of our Sunday School classes, please call Laurie Hintz (770) 887-2900, ext. 213.

Alpha 6: AM - 6th graders in room #4 in the Modular Building.
Confirmation - 7th graders and older youth downstairs in the student center - a time to explore what it means to claim the name Christian for themselves. New class begins each fall.
Grade 7-8, grade 9-10, and grade 11-12 break into small groups in their respective classrooms located in the student center.
Young Adults (college and beyond) meet in the sanctuary building, room #10

Adult Classes

Bob Bowling
Sanctuary Building - Room #19
The Bob Bowling Sunday School Class consists of older adults, both couples and singles. Hugh Boling began teaching in 1979, and is still our beloved teacher, using the International Sunday School Series. Class members welcome new members with exceptional Christian love and friendliness.

Christian Outlaws
Sanctuary Building - Room #10
The Christian Outlaws welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds; all you need to have is an open mind! Our goal is to create a place in which people can speak candidly, have fun and support each other. The Christian Outlaws look at Christianity and Scripture in very open, non-literal ways. Various authors and study guides are used. There are social events as well.

Circle of Friends
Sanctuary Building - Room #16
The Circle of Friends consists mainly of married and single “empty-nesters”. Our goal is to apply the works of Jesus and the Grace of God to our everyday lives with people who have come to feel as family. Various authors and study guides are used. This is a relatively small group that is truly a circle of friends.

Faithful Fellowship
Sanctuary Building - Room #15
Loving, caring, and supportive, Faithful Fellowship is a diverse Sunday School Class dedicated to Christian outreach and service, while nurturing an atmosphere of Christian fellowship. A curriclum of Bible-based topics and a variety of current events are discussed. This is a vibrant group with fellowship extending beyond the classroom.

Friendship
Modular Building - Room #1
The Friendship Sunday School Class includes couples and singles, ages forty to sixty. The name aptly describes the class as everyone is friendly, caring, a bit laid back and all have a great sense of humor. Using a discussion-oriented format, members have various religious backgrounds and many are active in Church leadership.

John Garrott
Sanctuary Building - Room #18
The John Garrott class is comprised mostly of parents in their 30’s-50’s. Following an open discussion format, the class is led by several class members on a rotating basis. This class describes itself as “absolutely the best Sunday school class to belong to”.

Living Waters
Sanctuary Building - Room #13
The class purpose, through prayer and study, is to know Christ, follow Him and progressively be conformed to His image/likeness. This class offers a study central to the Bible so members may experience a closer, personal walk with God, through a saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Mize-Dunn
Sanctuary Building - Room #11
The Mize-Dunn Sunday School Class is composed of singles and couples ages 30-80’s. The focus of the class curriculum is on International Adult Bible Studies. Dr. Bob Dunn has been the leader of the class for more than 30 years and is admired and appreciated by all. Everyone participates in discussion, sharing insights and opinions. Their closeness extends outside the classroom with many opportunities for fellowship. The class actively and strongly supports the programs of this church.

The Outsiders
Office Building - Room #110
The Outsiders Sunday School Class (mid 30-50’s) goes the extra mile to make members and guests feel a part of the group. We believe that Sunday School should be a time when we not only study the Bible, but also establish friendships. The general format of the class is “a little teaching and a lot of discussion” and is chosen by mutual agreement.

Pathfinders
Sanctuary Building - Room #20
This class targets young (you decide) married couples with and without children who seek both social and spiritual fellowship. It is a wonderful opportunity for couples just beginning their journey together to make new friends and become a part of Cumming First.

SonRisers
Office Building - Room #109
The SonRisers Sunday School Class is composed of 30 to 40 year old couples. Class activities are generally family-oriented, geared toward those with children. Classes consist of contemporary studies focusing on biblical topics and dynamic Christian growth. Members are outgoing and busy, but look after each other.

Sorta Fifties
Sanctuary Building - Room #17
The Sorta-Fifties Sunday School class, started in 1988, is a group of very caring, friendly, active, and fun-loving Christians over fifty. Although the “fifties” are now behind us, the spirit that brought us together and keeps us moving forward is still with us and grows with every passing day. They enjoy several fun socials and actively support church programs.

Soul Sisters
Sanctuary Building - Room #14
This class is designed to meet the needs of women, who, for a variety of reasons, are attending a Sunday School class alone. Our hope is to provide an opportunity to strengthen our spiritual walk, allow for weekly Bible study with minimal outside reading and develop friendships among women of all ages.

Spiritual Partners
Modular Building, Room #3
Spiritual Partners is a Sunday School Class dedicated to strengthening individuals in their walk of faith. Our mission is to create an environment for personal growth and spiritual development through encouraging the walk of faith in scripture, prayers and service. With great social opportunities, our room and hearts are open to anyone who would like to participate; singles, pairs or spares . . . all are welcome!
