Disciple Bible Studies ~ This exciting and dynamic approach to Bible study created by the United Methodist Church focuses on the disciple as a learner, believer, follower, proclaimer and servant. The purpose of Disciple may best be expressed in the words of John 8:31- If you make my Word your home, you will be my disciples. Click here to download a brochure.

What is Expected of Participants?

* Sign up in order to insure a slot

* Space is Limited

* Time required ranges from 30 minutes to one hour of study 6 days each week, primarily reading of the Bible plus a small amount from the Study Manual

* Attendance at and participation in weekly sessions

* Pray daily for members of your group

* Encourage and support others who are interested in Bible Study

Disciple classes begin in the Fall and end in Spring. Description of classes offered and cost of workbook(s)::

Disciple I ~ A 34 week study using one theme each week to organize study and reflection. 17 weeks of Old Testament and 17 weeks of New Testament. No prerequisite required. $36

Disciple II ~ A 32 week study concentrating on Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. Because the readings are less extensive than Disciple I, there is more time for reflection and greater depth in study. Also, there is an added weekly focus on one of the spiritual disciplines. Completion of Disciple I is required to take this class. $36 plus optional materials

Disciple III ~ A 32 week study concentrating on the writings of the Old Testament prophets and on the letters of Paul. Completion of Disciple I is required to take this class. $36

Jesus in the Gospels ~ A 30 week course focusing on the portraits of Jesus in the four Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Daily assignments include Old Testament and New Testament passages and use gospel comparison resources. Completion of Disciple I and another Disciple class is required to take this class. $45

Christian Believer ~ A 30 week study integrating Bible study with study of the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. By yoking doctrine with the Bible, this study develops familiarity with the Bible and what the church believes and teaches. The study enriches worship by helping to understand the language of faith in hymns, creeds, symbols, sermons and scripture. $42

Invitation to Psalms ~ A 10-week short term Disciple study invites us to engage the Psalms at the deepest level of our hearts, where God’s faithfulness confronts the most challenging aspects of our lives.   No prerequisite required.  $12

The goal of this 13-week study is not just information, we’re hoping for transformation! Thousands have attended FPU with amazing results. Participants must register and purchase materials in advance of the first session. Unlike other Sunday Connections Offerings, this class will run without breaks in the schedule. The Game of Life

Celebrating Life: Planning the Christian Funeral
Sundays « 5:00 - 7:00 pm Room 110 « October 3 and October 10
John Hutchinson - Director of Music & Arts, Esther Mitchell - Family Services Counselor, Rev. Ron Preuss - Minister of Pastoral Care and Older Adults will lead you through the planning of the ultimate celebration of a life lived in Christ; the Christian Funeral. The two session workshop will help ensure that your wishes are known, arrangements are already in place, and the grief of the moment is greatly eased for both your family and the church by helping you to plan the service as a true celebration of a Christian life.
Session one opens with the theology behind the Christian understanding of the funeral service, as well as, leading you through step- by-step preparations of making certain your affairs are in order. Session two walks you through the planning of the service itself including music and scripture choices, those who will lead in the service, etc. A question and Answer Period will follow each session. Limited to 30 people‘

I Love Lucy Bible Study

This 4-week study follows Lucy as she constantly gets into trouble and learns a lesson along the way. No homework. Childcare available.

Wednesdays:
The Amazing Collection ~ This 3 year study goes through the Bible by studying one book each week. Book fee: $11 per quarter. Facilitated by Wanda Franklin in her home. Call Laurie Hintz in the church office for more information.

Jesus the One and Only’ a Beth Moore Study
« 10:00 am - 12 Noon Room 13 « September 8 - November 10 Trena Lazzara Facilitating $14 book fee.
This in-depth women’s Bible study of the life of Jesus is based on the book of Luke. Come along with Beth Moore on a life-changing journey that will lead you through the hills of Galilee with the Teacher, across the lake with the Master, and finally, on the road toward the cross with the Savior. Childcare available.

Introduction to Portrait Drawing
Wednesdays « 6:30 – 8:30 pm Elementary Pod, with Kevin Whitley Sep. 8 - Oct. 13 « $100 fee.
“I can’t draw people!” Of course you can. It’s all a matter of proportions and drawing what you see. This introduction to portrait drawing will focus on the measurements of the facial proportions that make up the human face. We will work on the eyes, nose, mouth, hair, ears and all that goes in between. This 6-week class will work in charcoal and pencil. Class members will need: drawing pencils, charcoal pencils, kneaded eraser and drawing pad (white). Join us and enjoy the beauty of the human face! No childcare.

Women’s Connection ‘The Remarkable Women of the Bible’ by Elizabeth George

Rev. John’s Breakfast and Bible Study for Men

begins at 6:30 am with a light breakfast followed by the study 6:40 – 7:30 am
Student Center, with Rev. John Cromartie January 14 – March 25 « No fee.
This study’s focus is The Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians and is led by senior pastor, John Cromartie. Sponsored by the United Methodist Men. No childcare.
